During his studies at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Brett focused on developing his skills as a young conductor through his work as assistant conductor to the Lakehead University Vocal Ensemble. Along with the tutelage of Professor W. Dean Jobin-Bevans, Brett focused on conducting a vast range of musical styles in order to develop his skills as a young conductor. Brett also spent a year as student conductor with the Thunder Bay Youth Orchestra.

Since commencing his studies at McGill, Brett has shifted his focus to studying larger choral works that are masterworks in the choral repertoire. Working alongside Professor Jean-Sébastien Vallée, Brett has helped prepare McGill's Concert Chorus for performances of large works such as Maurice Duruflé's, Requiem Mass and Gabriel Fauré's, Requiem Mass in D-minor.

Brett will be spending his second summer with the Small Pond Entertainers based in Northern Ontario working as their resident Musical Director. Last year Brett was responsible for the music behind two of their summer productions. Currently he is working on Anne of Green Gables: The Musical by Donald Harron. This musical theater group allows Brett to work with vocalists with a vast range of musical backgrounds.
